Nakatani to face mandatory challenger Astrolabio on July 20

Viva Promotions revealed today that WBC bantamweight champion Junto Nakatani is set to face mandatory challenger Vincent Astrolabio on July 20th at Tokyo’s Ariake Arena.

Nakatani, with a perfect record of 27 wins and 20 knockouts, dominated in his last fight against Alexandro Santiago, establishing himself as a top pound-for-pound fighter at only 26 years old. Japan’s bantamweight quartet, including Nakatani, Takuma Inoue, Yoshiki Takei, and Ryosuke Nishida, promises exciting unification bouts in the future, but first, Nakatani must defend his title.

Astrolabio, on the other hand, has experienced ups and downs in his career, recently bouncing back with a surprise victory over Guillermo Rigondeaux. Following this win, he seized the opportunity to fight Nikolai Potapov on Showtime, defeating him in six rounds and earning a shot at the vacant WBO title against Jason Moloney.

Despite a tough loss to Moloney, Astrolabio demonstrated his power by defeating Nawaphon Kaikanha in a hostile environment in a WBC eliminator.

While Astrolabio may seem overmatched against Nakatani, his punching power poses a threat and Nakatani is known for his willingness to engage in a brawl. Stay tuned for more updates on this upcoming fight card.
