Gary Antuanne Russell Faces Alberto Puello for Interim WBC Title on June 15th

Gary Antuanne Russell, the undefeated #2 ranked WBC light welterweight contender, is set to face fellow unbeaten fighter Alberto Puello in a battle for the World Boxing Council interim 140-lb title. The showdown will take place on June 15th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and will be available on PBC PPV on Prime Video.

After a lengthy hiatus since his last fight in August, Russell will return to the ring against former WBA light welterweight champion Puello as part of the undercard for Gervonta Davis vs. Frank Martin and David Benavidez vs. Oleksandr Gvozdyk. A victory for Russell in this bout could propel him towards a title shot against WBC 140-lb champion Devin Haney. The potential matchup between Russell and Haney promises to be an exciting clash of skills and power, although Haney might consider moving up to 147 if the fight is delayed due to weight concerns.

Russell is determined to conquer the light welterweight division and has his sights set on becoming undisputed champion. To achieve this goal, Russell recognizes the need to increase his activity in the ring, as fighting once a year will not suffice. Despite his aspirations, Russell remains focused on the mental challenges of training camp, emphasizing the importance of mindset over physical exertion.

Antuanne Russell’s notable victories have come against Viktor Postol, Jovanie Santiago, and Rances Barthelemy, while Puello secured the vacant WBA light welterweight title in 2022 with a win over Batyr Akhmedov. Russell’s unwavering determination to dominate the division and face all champions underscores his ambition to reach the pinnacle of the sport.
