Yuri Akui wins his first defense of the WBA belt

Seigo Yuri Akui successfully defended his WBA flyweight title for the first time on Monday with a unanimous decision victory over Taku Kuwahara at the Tokyo Dome in Japan.

The 112-pound champion put on a commanding performance and secured the win with judges scoring the fight 118-110, 117-111, and 117-111 in his favor. Yuri Akui showcased his full range of skills, utilizing his distance effectively, landing combinations to both the body and face, and controlling the fight from start to finish.

At 28 years old, Yuri Akui has solidified his position as the WBA flyweight champion after claiming the belt with a previous win over Artem Dalakian. This latest victory marks his 20th career win, with 2 losses and 1 draw, including 11 knockouts. In contrast, Kuwahara’s record now stands at 13 wins, 2 losses, and 8 knockouts.
